HRM III---Axapta

Skill Management

Required

  1. A very structured framework for classifying the capabilities of our employees---A method is needed to determine the approaches that will be taken in classifying skills.

Three Approaches

  1. The traditional bottoms up approach----examine all the business processes and register all the skills that are relevant to accomplish these. This approach is very time consuming.
  2. The core competency approach. This depends on the business strategy. Allowing all competencies in the business to support the core competencies of the business. If competencies are generic enough to cover a large organization then they might be difficult to substantiate.
  3. The balance score card approach. This approach is about setting targets for four main business areas:
  • Financial
  • Customer
  • Process
  • Learning and Growth

These four areas are interdependent as financial results require happy paying customer which in turns requires good processes for product and service development which should be a result of highly skilled and innovative employees.

Choose a model and be consistent because this will affect how we group skills later.
